Hello, Good Bis! Podcast

Overview

Collaborators: Annie Brinich (link opens in a new window)
Start: July 2019

Together, with my co-host Annie (she/her), we produce an educational podcast to provide context about the bisexual experience by sharing research, getting advice, and talking to queer people we like. We collaborate to identify and research topics. Annie handles the sound production. I tackle social media, writing the show notes and timestamps, and reaching out to guests to schedule interviews.

Episodes

Below, please find a sampling of my favorite episodes!

Bi Appointment with Dr. Mimi

Bisexuals are more at risk for mental health problems than our straight, lesbian, and gay peers. Whatever your baseline was before the pandemic, your struggles are probably feeling a bit worse. In this episode, Annie and Rose spoke with Dr. Mimi Hoang, a nationally recognized, bi-affirming psychologist, educator, author, and grassroots activist specializing in the LGBTQ+ and Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities. Dr. Mimi tells us about dealing with isolation during quarantine, finding a therapist, and supporting those experiencing racial trauma.

Queer Black Voices

We hand over our platform to queer black voices and provide a list of queer people, organizations, and advocates listeners should follow.

Bi-ence

There’s nothing hotter than talking about research and data! Annie and Rose get steamy and talk about how attraction is measured, how it’s funded, and why it matters. Spoiler alert: the data that exists about bisexual people might impact you more than you think. *Note: this episode was recorded before the stay-at-home orders.

BiStanders

Don’t just be a BiStander, but an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community! But what makes someone a good ally? Annie and Rose discuss how to build a good ally tool kit, actions that flex the good ally muscle, and ways your actions can have an impact!

On the Bi-g Screen

TV and movies surround us from a young age, shaping our understanding of the world and our expectations of others. Annie and Rose explore their first exposure to bisexual characters, the history of bisexuality on the big screen, why representation matters, and what TV and movies get right (er… more often wrong).

Getting Bi

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week! Join Annie and Rose while they share statistics about the mental health struggles bisexuals face, the methods they use to triage and maintain mental health, tips for finding and talking to a mental health professional, and their personal experiences with mental illness and binge drinking.
